If you’re reading this, welcome. Truly. Launching this website has been a long time coming, and I wanted my first post to be personal because this entire platform began with my own journey.
I’m a woman in my fifties, very close to turning sixty, who spent decades in the corporate world. I gained valuable experience, met incredible people, traveled the country, and built a career I’m proud of, yet there was always a quiet internal nudge. A whisper that said, “There’s something more you’re meant to build for yourself.”
Eventually, I listened.
Identity Shift Takes Time
Leaving corporate life and stepping into solopreneurship wasn’t just a professional shift, it was an identity shift. When you’ve worked for others your whole life, it takes time to rewire your thinking and realize I’m the one in charge now. I set the direction. I choose the opportunities. That empowerment doesn’t happen overnight, and I had to learn (and unlearn) quite a bit along the way.
But once that switch flipped? I knew I had found the path I was meant to be on.
Part of that comes from my upbringing. My parents were self-employed, they owned an engine remanufacturing business, and I grew up listening to business development conversations over breakfast while getting ready for school. Entrepreneurship, strategy, customer relationship, all of that seeped into my bones from an early age. Being a solopreneur feels like coming home.
I bought a coffee mug in my early 20’s that had a cartoon by Gary Larson of The Far Side. It was a penguin, in a sea of penguins, singing, “I gotta be me, oh I just gotta be me…” and I still have it and now I feel true to myself.
Professionally, I’ve also spent years in recruiting, staffing, sales, and marketing. I’ve been on the inside of hiring decisions, so I know exactly what employers look for, and I love helping people reinvent their careers or reposition their skills when they want (or need) a new direction. I also understand the sales and marketing side of running a business, and I enjoy breaking those concepts down so people can confidently promote themselves and their services.
Utilizing My Skills in My Business
Today, through my company, Treasure Coast Connector, I get to blend everything I’ve learned, communications, relationship-building, media, storytelling, interviews, community engagement, and use it to help businesses shine. Whether it’s my weekly iHeart radio/podcast talk show, articles and blog posts, spotlight interviews, or helping someone refine their brand message, it’s work that energizes me.
And that’s exactly why I created 50+ Solopreneur.
I keep meeting people in their fifties, sixties, and beyond who are craving a new chapter. Some are retired and bored. Some want to stay active and purposeful but aren’t sure how. Some launched a business but feel stuck. Others have been laid off later in life and suddenly need a reinvention plan.
I believe, with every fiber of my being, that life after 50 is the perfect time to build something new. You have wisdom, perspective, and clarity that only experience brings. And you absolutely do not need a big company, employees, or complicated systems to be successful. A simple, streamlined, meaningful business is often the sweet spot.
And you don’t have to do it alone. I certainly didn’t.
So, this website is here to guide, encourage, and support you as you carve out your next chapter.
If any part of my story resonates, I hope you’ll stick around. There’s so much more to come, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Until my next post, I miss you already.
